The Story of The Tiger
“A political tale presented as a thrilling one-man show that will fascinate spectators through the effective use of simple techniques”
“Whoever has the tiger takes a stand. Whoever has the tiger commits to join in and to be present and responsible at all times.”
Italian author and Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo tells the clever and humorous story of an injured soldier who gets rescued by a tigress. She licks his wounds, gives him shelter and saves his life. Nanzikambe Arts take this political parable about resistance, courage and democracy and put it into a new context. Based on the tragic events of a 2011 anti-regime demonstration at which eighteen people were killed by police forces, their performance deals with the politically charged situation in the southeast African country of Malawi.
Geoffrey Mbene lives and works as an actor in Malawi. His performance ‘The Story of the Tiger’ was developed by Nanzikambe Arts under the direction of Thokozani Kapiri and in cooperation with Theater Konstanz as a part of the project ‘Crossing Borders’.
