The Jungwild Award for upcoming young artists was established by the Austrian theatre festivals SCHÄXPIR (Upper Austria), szene bunte wähne (Lower Austria) and spleen*graz (Styria) in collaboration with the theatres DSCHUNGEL WIEN and TaO! – Theater am Ortweinplatz Graz. Its aim is to encourage upcoming artists to work for children and teenagers in all areas of performing arts.
Through the years, the unique award has become an important part of the Austrian theatre scene.
This year, Jungwild was awarded for the fifth time. In June 2013, 11 nominated groups presented their ideas and short scenes at the international theatre festival SCHÄXPIR in Linz. Three groups were then chosen by an international jury to receive the Jungwild Award, which included prize money of 15,000 € for further development.
Winners of the 2013 Jungwild Award:
- theater.nuu with their performance ‘MOON AWOOH’ about sleeping and waking, aimed at very young children
- JAWUI with their play ‘Also, ähm..hm’ (‘Well, erm..hm’) about death, aimed at children from the age of 6
- Katie und Mai with their production ‘Katie ist weg’ (‘Katie is gone’) about migration, aimed at teenagers from the age of 12
The three winning productions will have their first showings at spleen*graz. The award also includes performances at the other participating theatres and festivals.
The next Jungwild competition will take place in 2015.
